Lying there in regret, I decided to act on a vision. Not knowing where I would end up, it was time. Over ten years had passed since the accident.

Hi, my name is Jason and in 2009 I was fortunate to survive a fatal auto accident with four broken vertebrae in my lower back. After two major surgeries, I was told by my doctors that chronic pain is something that I would have to live with. Treating my debilitating pain through a pain management clinic was the next step. I was already taking opi’s to try and manage the pain but in reality, that only lasted so long. With the advise of my new pain management team, a high dose of Substance F patch would be added to help minimize the pain I was in.

(For advertising purposes I can’t say the name of substance F, it rhymes with Sentinel)

Time will wear you down. A decade had gone by. I was living in bed and was slowly deteriorating. I was bitter about what happened as the accident wasn’t my fault. I was still in severe pain and feeling sorry for myself. I could only dream about what could be. If I could make some major changes, then maybe I could find a way out of this massive hole I was in. My weight was down to 135 lbs from 175 lbs before the accident. My muscle was gone and my body was dependent on a plethora of pharmaceuticals that did nothing for my pain anymore.

The vision I had for myself included getting off all medications, which included Substance F, antidepressants , sleeping pills and opi’s. If I could achieve that I would wrap my body in muscle, hoping that the extra support would help my back, just like the back braces I wore. Weening off all these medications is what I embarked on. That included cutting my Substance F patches into smaller doses so the withdrawals were spread out, as you cannot just stop taking Substance F.

Twenty one months later I was free from all pharma drugs and the horrors that accompanied them. I was stronger than ever mentally but very weak physically. Withdrawals are very powerful and can put a lot of strain on your mental health as well as your physical body. Making changes in life is hard and can be incredibly uncomfortable. I thought what could be more uncomfortable than an ice bath, so I started cold plunging every other day. To this day I take a cold shower every day and do an ice bath every Tuesday. The mental strength to endure and dopamine blast that I get almost feels like cheating.

Now it was time to make some real changes. You know how much you care about something if you are willing to take action. Once you get on a roll it will become easier. In addition to removing the pharmaceuticals, I would go on to quit smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. I made drastic changes to my diet which included limiting processed foods and replacing them with whole foods. I started cardio and resistance training. It was a snowball effect. Things got easier as I went, almost automatic. The pain in my back is still with me to this day, but I am able to endure; no pills just mental strength. During this journey I stumbled upon an unforeseen advantage to fitness. Generally speaking if you are sore after a workout you associate it with good pain, the kind that helps build muscle. Blending the back pain and post workout pain has allowed me to almost see through the chronic pain I endure daily. I have taken a holistic approach to life in general which has been a complete 180 for me.

Fast forward three years later and it feels as though I am living life in the bonus round. Never would I have expected this. The student became the trainer, focusing on a balance of resistance and cardio training. I’d like to share with you all of the hacks, healthy habits and fitness knowledge that I have accumulated over the years so that you too can experience a complete transformation in the composition of ones body and mental strength. My goal is to get you mentally tough enough to take on the goals you’ve set for yourself. Adhering to a diet or exercise program requires a certain amount of discipline and if you are not strong enough mentally, quitting is typically your next step (Studies show 90% of people will give up going to the gym within the first 3 months). I will get you comfortable with the correct full range of motion form, weights, cardio and equipment so that you can eventually do this on your own. Together we can create the mindset for your mind and body to thrive.

Don’t let time pass you by any longer, living in regret. Let’s train together, experience some wins, achieve your health goals by overcoming whatever has been holding you back so that you can live life to the fullest.

I will train you at your home, in a park or a local gym.
